One Within
The brave man
Wears scars
A patchwork of scars
Across his back
Hewn deep
Into his heart
Only he
Still
Wears no armor
The brave man
Wears deep canyons
On his brow
Cut by
Rivers of worry
Only he
Also
Wears a smile
The brave man
Wears the shackles
We all wear
Sits in his dreary cell
Gazes through
The small square window
Of eyes, embraces, words,
frail futile shadows
of reflections of meaning
Only he also wears
Him Self
And the conviction
That he is free
Wears scars
A patchwork of scars
Across his back
Hewn deep
Into his heart
Only he
Still
Wears no armor
The brave man
Wears deep canyons
On his brow
Cut by
Rivers of worry
Only he
Also
Wears a smile
The brave man
Wears the shackles
We all wear
Sits in his dreary cell
Gazes through
The small square window
Of eyes, embraces, words,
frail futile shadows
of reflections of meaning
Only he also wears
Him Self
And the conviction
That he is free

You have a lot to say about courage in this poem--something you need a lot of when falling in love.
It is simple, direct and communicates in an inspiring way.
I figured out why I miss the original title: "courage".
That title made courage the subject of the poem, and I felt you
were giving your insight into the nature of courage. It was a powerful statement.
The new title makes the man the subject. Although courage is still part of the message, attention is drawn to the individual.
It's like two different poems; both are effective.
